Happiness is Within Us. We Just Forget It.

In today’s fast-paced world, many people believe happiness lies in success, wealth, or external achievements. However, the truth is, happiness is not something you find outside. It’s already within you, waiting to be rediscovered. We often forget this because we focus too much on what we don’t have, rather than appreciating what we do.

#Happiness is a State of Mind

Psychologists say happiness is a state of mind. A happiness researcher, has found that about 40% of our happiness depends on our daily activities and choices. This means we have the power to create happiness by changing our thoughts and habits. It’s not always about what happens to us but how we respond to it.


One big reason we forget about our inner happiness is the "hedonic treadmill." This psychological concept explains how humans quickly adapt to positive changes. For example, buying a new phone or car might make us happy for a while, but soon, the excitement fades, and we return to our usual level of happiness. This is why external things don’t bring lasting joy.


Another reason is negative thinking. Many of us dwell on problems, compare ourselves to others, or criticize ourselves harshly. This mental habit blocks the natural joy that exists within us. Instead, practicing gratitude and positive thinking can shift our focus. Studies show that writing down three things you’re grateful for each day can significantly boost happiness.


Mindfulness is another powerful tool. It helps us connect with the present moment instead of worrying about the past or future. When we live in the "now," we become more aware of the small joys around us—like the taste of a good meal, the smile of a loved one, or the beauty of nature.


Social Connections play a key role. Spending time with family and friends can activate positive emotions, as humans are wired to feel good when they connect with others. A warm hug, a heartfelt conversation, or even helping someone in need can release “feel-good” hormones like oxytocin.


Happiness is not about chasing big dreams or perfect moments. It’s about embracing life as it is and finding joy in simple things. The key lies in training our mind to see good around us and within us. Happiness was never lost; we just forgot where to look.
